A Taste of Peru - Gourmet Tour of Peru
2007 Gourmet Tour of Peru

There are many ways to get to know a country, but one of the most gratifying and interesting is through its food. This is especially true of Peru, with the infinity of textures, colors, aromas and flavors that this generous land provides. Peru has ancient traditions and a long-established culinary style which has grown from a variety of roots. It is a hospitable country whose inhabitants enjoy good food and are pleased to share it.

The gastronomic history of Peru dates back centuries, to times before the rise of the Inca Empire, when local inhabitants experimented constantly, discovering both new ingredients and new ways to combine ingredients already well known. The Spanish presence, and with it the influence of Arab and African cultures, brought new tastes and techniques to Peruvian dinner tables. Later, Italian, Chinese and Japanese immigrants contributed to broaden our culinary heritage even further. Finally in the last two decades, the increased interest in Peruvian cooking thanks to the Nouveau Andean style, has made Peru into a fashionable gastronomic center.

Since we moved from Peru to San Francisco and to Madrid, as Peruvians, our fascination with our culture and food has grown even further. We have received a lot of interest through these years for Peruvian cuisine. We realized that the best way to show our country was to organize A Taste to Peru gourmet tour to discover the Peruvian culture with a different vision, through our food.

Join Penelope for this splendid and intimate culinary and cultural journey. We have partnered with friends who are top tourist operators, chefs, restaurateurs and hotel managers that will work together with us to make your visit an experience that you will never forget.

The tour commences in Lima, the gastronomic capital of South America. We will dine in the restaurants of Peru’s greatest chefs, visit a local market, have demos and hands on classes, visit historical museums and ruins, and tour the city. Then we will go to the colonial city of Cusco where we will visit Urubamba Valley, a setting of picturesque communities, impressive terraces and important archaeological sites. We will have great dining experiences where we will taste ancient traditional and NovoAndino dishes made with seasonal local produce. Finally, we will tour the Machu Picchu ruins, considered one of the most outstanding archaeological wonders of the world. Back in Lima we will gather for a farewell with a Pachamanca banquet celebration lunch.

Experiencing A Taste of Peru will provide invaluable insights into what makes Peru such an inspiring and interesting country with such fascinating cuisine. So are you ready to join us?

Los esperamos,
Penelope
